1C learns about Polar Bears!
The grade 1s in 1C embarked on an exciting inquiry journey to learn all about polar bears! We started by asking curious questions: Where do polar bears live? What do they eat? How do they stay warm in the Arctic?
To find answers, we explored a variety of resources. We read informational books, watched educational videos, and even conducted science experiments to understand how blubber keeps polar bears warm. Through art and writing activities, we expressed our learning in creative ways, making connections across different subjects.
To showcase our discoveries, we designed and built polar bear habitats using different materials, demonstrating our understanding of what these amazing animals need to survive. Our inquiry journey reached an exciting high point with a visit to Assiniboine Park Zoo, where we observed real polar bears up close and learned from experts about conservation efforts.
This hands-on learning experience helped us develop research skills, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for Arctic wildlife. Our Grade 1s are now true polar bear experts!
