"Roots of CFL greatness run deep at Oak Park high school" - (videos from CTV and CityNews)
As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers play in their 5th consecutive #GreyCup, the focus once again turns to remarkable Oak Park Raiders football program led by then coach Stu Nixon that produced current Bomber standouts Nic Demski and Brady Oliveira, not to mention former Bomber great Andrew Harris and other CFL players.
Watch a great interview from CTV where Demski credits Coach Nixon and his time at Oak Park for preparing him for professional football.
And here's a great interview from City News featuring Raiders legendary coach Stu Nixon talking about his time coaching at Oak Park.
It speaks volumes about the lessons Demski and the other Raiders alumni learned from Nixon – now a Pembina Trails trustee and recent inductee into the Manitoba Hall of Fame – not just about football, but about life.
Nic and Brady and Andrew Harris all do a great job giving back to the Raiders football program. They understand and appreciate the singular greatness of the Raiders football program.
It cannot be overstated just how uniquely successful the Raiders football program is. Simply put, there isn't another high school anywhere in Canada - possibly not even in North America - that has produced as many professional football players as Oak Park.
And with Nixon passing the coaching baton to Chris Ollson, who just led the Raiders to second place in the province and an incredible 6th place ranking in all of Canada, the future of football at Oak Park is alive and well.
Congratulations to Coach Nixon and Coach Ollson for making Oak Park the envy of every high school football program in the country.
