Woodworking

Course Objectives:
- To provide an exploratory experience with safety procedures, wood, hand tools and some machines
(sander, drill press, band saw, scroll saw, table sander and router) - To relate safety with proper work habits and procedures
- To promote cooperation and organization in maintaining a neat notebook
- Building a simple project and adequate work room clean up
Course Content:
- Discussion and quiz of safety rules applicable to any woodworking lab
- To perform the six basic steps of building any wood project
- To learn the operation and safe use of some hand tools and some machinery
- To learn useful organizational skills and work habits (proper clamping and securing of work, clean up
procedures, sequence of work steps)
Projects/Labs:
- Each student completes one compulsory project in the class and, time permitting, a second limited choice
- Each student will design and construct a sail car or bottle rocket
