Numeracy & Mathematics Programming

In order to meet the challenges of society, high school graduates need a good basic knowledge of mathematics and must understand and work with numbers.

Math is important not just in our work lives, but also in our personal lives as citizens and consumers. Math concepts are everywhere in our daily life; in business, industry, government, our thinking about the environment and much more.

The kindergarten to Grade 12 provincial mathematics curriculum  is organized by grade and divided into four strands: Patterns and Relations; Statistics and Probability; Shape and Space; and Number.

The study of mathematics helps students to develop:

• creative and logical thinking skills
• problem-solving skills
• data analysis skills
• communication and cooperative interaction skills
• connections to everyday life

Hands-on learning activities, problem-solving, visualization, communication, connections to everyday life, technology, estimation, mental math and strategic instruction all help students develop mathematical skills and understanding.
